What is an electronic time clock?
It is the digital record of each employee’s start time, end time and breaks. The time is saved in a system, which calculates the hours worked and keeps the history.
It can be done on a time clock device or through software, on a phone, computer or tablet. Registro Ponto is a digital electronic time clock system, with no physical clock.
With an electronic time clock, you:
- Know who has already clocked in today
- Adjust clock-ins and approve requests
- Track hour banks and overtime
- Generate the timesheet at the end of the month

Is an electronic time clock mandatory?
No. What Brazilian law requires is recording working hours. Article 74 of the CLT requires this record at establishments with more than 20 employees, and it can be manual, mechanical or electronic. When it is electronic, it must follow Portaria 671, which defines three types:
| Type | How it works |
|---|---|
| REP-C | Physical time clock installed at the company. |
| REP-A | System authorized by a collective agreement. |
| REP-P | Software used on a phone, computer or tablet. This is the type Registro Ponto uses. |
The system generates clock-in receipts and the AFD and AEJ fiscal files, and the software is registered with INPI. See how we meet Portaria 671.
